Why is Via Medica Last Mile Delivery So Important?

Africa and other Remote parts of the world face significant challenges in rolling out vaccinations.
Vaccinations in these areas face significant barriers:
Infrastructure, Access, Funds, Awareness and Logistical Challenges.

Via Medica International Healthcare LLC has extended its value proposition to include in-country vaccination services across Africa.  The services will enable countries and communities with limited medical and logistical capacities to absorb the delivered vaccine supplies and inoculate their populations safely and efficiently with minimal disruption to the operations of the local healthcare delivery services.
Infrastructure

The quality and quantity of roads and other forms of transportation within these areas can be greatly limited. Access to power (or instability of power) and running water along with limited communication access is a major barrier as well. Areas further may have limited remote medical services, requiring increased medical staffing assistance.

Access

Central Governments may have limited territorial control in conflict affected regions. Remote communities lacking road or rail access cause challenges to delivering necessary equipment.

Funds and Awareness

Due to concerns over safety and fears of negative side effects (recorded in the US and Europe), some governments have postponed or discontinued vaccination rollouts. Funding for immunizations is perhaps one of the most important challenges facing immunization programs today in Africa and other financially struggling regions.

Logistical Challenges

Several vaccines require ultra cold storage, making chiller vans or alternative cooling chambers necessary, in areas lacking road access, this equipment must be brought in by helicopter or plane, along with the necessary generators and fuel. Different vaccines create challenges regarding record keeping, storage requirements and training to give different vaccines.
